Drawing a cheerful California quail

Birds
Hi little artist! Today we are going to draw a very special bird: the California quail. He looks funny with that little plume on his head. Grab your pencil and eraser, and let's get started together!
1
Drawing of a small circle above a large horizontal oval.
Draw a small circle for the head and a large horizontal oval for the body.
2
The circle and oval are connected with neck lines and a tail line.
Connect the head and the body with two curved lines for the neck and draw a diagonal line for the tail.
3
Guide lines for the wing and the legs of the quail.
Draw a guide line for the wing on the back and place small dashes for the legs.
4
Shapes of the beak, wing, and thicker legs visible.
Create the beak at the front of the head and give the legs and wing more shape.
5
The bird gets a crest on its head and a wide tail.
Draw the funny crest on top of the head and make the tail a bit wider at the end.
6
Detailed drawing of the eye and the toes of the bird.
Draw an eye in the head and give the legs small toes to stand on.
7
Details of feathers and nails added to the drawing.
Add small dashes for the feathers on the wing and draw sharp nails on the toes.
8
The finished California quail with clean lines without guide lines.
Make the outer lines extra thick and carefully erase the guide lines inside.
